Heading To HalCon!

“If we can’t write diversity into sci-fi then what’s the point? You don’t create new worlds to give them all the same limits of the old ones”

-Jane Espenson (from interview with Advocate.com)

Whitewashing and ways to Combat presented at the Montreal Comiccon 2017

The Great Wall, Dr. Strange, Ghost In The Shell. What do these films have in common?: White actors taking the place of actors of color. It’s 2017, why is this still happening? From comics to games and film, Lateef Martin will discuss why and possible solutions to annihilate whitewashing from the face of the earth!! He will be at Hal-Con, a sci-fi, fantasy and gaming convention in Halifax September 22-24th. We’ll also have a both with comics, prints and more, so if you’re in town catch the talk and swing by to survive the weekend with us!

The End

Z’Isle Illustrator and co-writer Lateef Martin, Art Dirrector and Co-writer Isabelle Duguay

We did it!! Thanks to you FIVE YEARS LATER we finished Z’Isle Issue #6: Faith as per our Indiegogo campaign. It’s been a wild ride with plenty of ups and downs but your creativity and energy have helped build an incredible world and we could not have done it without you! From the bottom of your hearts, thank you for taking his crazy zombie-riddled journey with us! We’ve learned so much and created something far more immersive, unique and fun than we could ever imagine! This is the last update on this campaign, though we may drop an update here and there for other things, primarily when the campaign for Z’Isle Volume 2 drops!

As we have mentioned in previous updates, THIS AIN’T OVER! With such a vibrant, rich, world we felt it necessary to add two more issues to Volume One of Z’Isle, so expect issue 7 -and if the undead are kind-8 next year! We will not be mailing these out as it falls out side of our campaign, however you can find them in fine stores across Montreal. If you are not in Montreal drop us a line at info@miscellaneumstudios.com and we can ship them out to you!

This will conclude Volume One  of the story. Volumes Two & Three will most likely have less issues but more pages. At one point we will combine issues 1-8 into one book along with our soundtrack!

For those of you who expected to see yourself in the the pages of Z’Isle, despair not! We have two more issues to create and rest assured, you will appear in those pages!

We are hard at work on the game Stay Human-which takes place during the seven years before Z’Isle. We are traveling to conventions, seeking out additional funding and working on the art style and gameplay. We will keep you posted on developments on the Miscellaneum website!

From all of us, thank you again for surviving along with us on this dark journey. We hope you will stick around!

Until then you know what to do…

Canada was a partner country this year at video game convention Gamescom in Cologne, Germany as part of its 150th year anniversary. Lateef Martin joined a delegation of Canadian indies where they networked with publishers, Trade commissioners, fellow developers and other attendees. They also had a chance to see the sights and of course enjoy the wide range of events and beer! We’re looking forward to updating you on developments…

Contemplating which inflight movie to watch…

Attendees poured into the Keolnmesse convention centre all day.

Canadian studios had a great set up to meet with publishers, fellow developers and other attendees in the business pavilion. The coffee machine saved many lives.

The retro zone had classic arcade games and displays full of PC games from days past. This was just one of 10 areas, from business development to cosplay, AAA games and indie games.

An array of mobile games made by South African developers were on display in the business pavilion.

Game on! One of the many amazing musicians, developers and artists showing off their skills and wares at Gamescom.
